In 2015, the Nenskra Hydropower Plant Project submitted the complete Environmental & Social Impact Assessment Report (ESIA) to the Ministry of Environment of Georgia as part of the construction permit obtaining process according to Georgian legislation. The 2015 ESIA Report has been prepared by a Georgian consultant Gamma Consulting Limited, based on field investigations undertaken in 2011-2014 and the public consultations meetings held in 2014 and 2015.
The construction permit was awarded by the authorities October 2015.
Since then, several International Financial Institutions (the Potential Lenders) have been approached to finance the Project. To ensure compliance with their Environmental and Social (E&S) policies, the Potential Lenders have recommended that a number of Supplementary E&S Studies be undertaken to supplement the existing 2015 ESIA report.
A first version of Supplementary Environmental and Social studies were publicly disclosed in March 2017. During the disclosure period that lasted until August 2017, a number of meetings, public consultation sessions and an Open House were carried out. During these public sessions community members, NGOs and other members of Civil Society were able to raise their concerns, ask questions and provide recommendations regarding the project.
The links below provides access to the ten volumes of the supplementary studies that were revised based on stakeholder feedback. The 2015 ESIA Report is included in the Annexes to Vol.2 - Project Definition.
